#OCBCCares is OCBC Bank’s umbrella corporate social responsibility programme, launched with an initial S$600,000 in bank funding to support projects proposed by 15 charity partners. The causes those partners work on range from vulnerable children, youths and families to disadvantaged elderly people, persons with special needs, and environmental sustainability.
Rather than only writing cheques, OCBC says the programme is built around volunteers contributing job-relevant skills — data analytics, money management, fraud surveillance and digital literacy — to its charity partners’ operations. Among the projects the bank cites: funding for a MINDS clinic providing diagnosis and treatment for individuals with special needs, and S$1 million contributed toward preschool education for 2,500 children from lower-income families.
The programme’s best-known environmental commitment is a S$3 million contribution to the OCBC Mangrove Park on Pulau Ubin, which the bank describes as Singapore’s largest mangrove restoration project. Mangrove restoration is increasingly cited in corporate sustainability reporting for its dual role in coastal protection and carbon sequestration, alongside habitat value for local wildlife.
